Buckets are an essential part of your prepper pantry. I love using buckets for bulk dry goods in both my short-term and long-term layers.

The first thing you want to look for in a bucket for food storage is the symbol on the bottom. Some of the most common are numbers 1, 2, 4, or 5. You can also keep an eye out for the spoon and fork symbol. Those buckets are food-safe as well.

  • Number 1 (PETE)
  • Number 2 (HDPE)
  • Number 4 (LDPE)
  • Number 5 (PP)

Check out this video, Food Storage 101: Buckets, for more information on choosing the RIGHT buckets for your prepper pantry. I covered bucket symbols, what kind of lids to use, and how your storage conditions can impact what is in your buckets. I also answered some of the most frequently asked questions about buckets.
